The more I learn about or delve into the different disciplines of Japanese, Chinese or Korean poetry the I become involved in their history and fall for their attitude, especially towards nature. I love nature, the natural world, the animals, insects etc without which we would be treeless and plantless and starving.

Basho was one of the more well known Japanese poets, not only of his time, here I offer one of his summer haiku for your consideration. Then in all humility I will offer one of my own. Not for comparison but as a mark of respect for the medium.

Basho –

summer grasses …
traces of dreams
of ancient warriors

what do you keep in your depths
small creatures hiding

Very best wishes for a good summer – praying for those in trouble and turmoil
